Don’t Believe the Hype! Black Friday Is Not Dead for Brick and Mortar

December 3, 2019

CNBC is already reporting Black Friday shopping is down 6% from previous years for brick and mortar, while online shopping is at an all time high. However, if you read the rest of the article, brick and mortar has spread Black Friday over Thanksgiving and if you combine the two days it is only down 3%.

That is still a decline, but who is declining? BlockChyp looked into our own customer base and saw niche based retail is on the rise. Overall spending was up 280%, on average, from a typical Friday in November. That is a huge uptick! These businesses also claimed to have a more successful Black Friday than in previous years. One claiming a 40% increase in sales from the previous year!

Customers still crave a unique shopping experience and unique items. If you sell what’s online, just like the big box stores, you have to create a great shopping experience so customers want to come to your store. Otherwise you will keep seeing a decline.
